
About Ger Carthy
Ger has been a member of Wexford County Council since 2014 having topped the poll in the Local Government elections. Ger comes from a family steeped in political tradition with his late father, Leo, having served the people of the Wexford District for nearly half a century.
He was elected Mayor of Wexford in June 2015
The second of three children, Ger was born in 1977 to Leo and Anne Carthy and spent his childhood at Lakeview, Lady’s Island in Wexford. He was educated at Broadway National School and the Christian Brothers in Wexford Town before qualifying as a carpenter.

Career & Voluntary Work
In 2003 Ger joined the National Ambulance Service.
He works as an Advanced Paramedic with the HSE stationed in Wexford General Hospital. He was conferred with a Graduate Diploma in Emergency Medical Science from UCD in 2015.
Ger was subsequently promoted to Advanced Paramedic Supervisor, a role which he continues to work hard at and enjoy today.
Ger holds various organisational positions including:
Chairman of the Board of Directors for KRT Ltd ( KRT is a company which currently provides and supports community employment placements in the parishes of Rosslare Strand, Tagoat, Kilrane/Rosslare Harbour, Piercestown, Lady's Island/Tachumshane and has two childcare facilities within the South Wexford area).
Founding member of Wexford Marine Watch, an organisation set up to help reduce the instances of attempted suicide on Wexford Harbour.
For the past 5 years Ger has served as member of the Wexford Waterford Education and Training Board and its Audit Committee; County Wexford Joint Policing Committee; Wexford County Council Strategic Policy Committee on Housing and Environment;
Rosslare Europort Task Force - a committee he advocated for; The Wexford County Council Mental Health Committee.
Ger advocated and supported Wexford County Council’s ‘Economic and Community Investment Programme 2018-2022’ which aims to invest over 50M in developing infrastructure to support job creation and community and tourism infrastructure throughout the county.

GAA
Ger is currently treasurer of his local GAA club; however, he has also held various roles including Chairman and County Board Representative.
With a strong commitment to the GAA at local and county level, Ger served as Development Officer with Wexford GAA and was Chairman of The Ferns Centre of Excellence Project Team and saw this project through to completion in June of 2016.
Ger also supports and helps the physical development of all the GAA clubs in Wexford.

Family Life
Ger married Anne Marie in 2009, four years after they first met.
The couple have three children,
